Newark Airport Will No Longer Be Designated a NYC Airport

Starting in October 2022 Newark International Airport (EWR) will lose its NYC airport designation. This may lead to penalties when passengers wish to alter their destination to other NYC area airports. Prior to this change, Newark Airport was grouped with other NYC airports, JFK, and LaGuardia.

“Since EWR and JFK belong to different City Codes (EWR and NYC respectively), changing the airport (rerouting) from JFK to EWR will result in a change in O&D (origin and destination),” read the memo.

It’s still unclear what this change will actually mean for ticket prices. It’s possible that prices may move either up or down.
