New Airport Lounge To Open at Newark Airport

American Express is planning to build a 50,000 sq. ft. expansion at Terminal A that features a high-end lounge and bar, and a restaurant featuring views of Manhattan. The New Jersey Port Authority has voted to approve the expansion expected to cost upward of $100 million dollars.

EWR’s new terminal has been renamed from Terminal One to Terminal A to keep the existing naming convention in place and this new extension will be part of this new project. The new terminal is already expected to house four lounge sections in addition to the new expansion.

The new terminal is expected to open for business in the spring of 2022 starting with 21 gates and the remaining 12 gates will open in the fall of 2022.

The amenities at the American Express Centurion expansion are slated to include a terrace overlooking the Manhattan skyline, a jazz bar and cocktail lounge, and other premium amenities for remote work, wellness rooms, and, of course, restaurants.

“Most airports have non-airline branded lounges, it’s a feature and it’s part of responding to the customer experience being provided by the airport,” Cotton said. “The transaction with American Express provides the Port Authority with an addition and needed space for airlines and tenants of the terminal.”
