JFK, EWR, and LGA Airports Inch Closer to Pre-Pandemic Passenger Levels
New York City area airports including JFK and LGA saw over 12 million passengers in July 2022 which is getting closer to pre-pandemic levels during 2019. The report comes from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
This relatively good news to the airline industry comes amid a growing number of cancellations and travel delays.
In the first half of August 2022, more than 30% of flights were delayed at EWR, 32% at JFK, and 24% at LGA. LaGuardia saw the highest cancellation rates among the three which saw over 8% of its flights canceled with EWR and JFK at 8% and 2.5% respectively.
It’s typical to see flight delays during summer, but this year has been relatively high.
Both delays and cancellations are expected to subside in the fall months as airlines boost staff and the demand for air travel is reduced.
